My story
My name is Dennis Hammond, and I am raising money for Little Oaks, the Children's Oncology Services at St. Peters Hospital. I am passionate about raising money for you as you do amazing jobs. I am planning on doing the world's fastest skyride (health permitting) as a challenge to raise money for you. It is located at Penrhyn Quarry in Bangor.
My story is that I was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer on 5th May 2022 and my world was turned upside-down. I had a biopsy 7th June to confirm it was terminal and then I met up with my cancer specialist nurse to be told that I was going on Prostap hormone injections every 3 months to stop the cancer spreading further and to stop my testosterone from producing. After that, I had scan after scan after scan, including a nuclear medicine bone scan to see if it had spread into my bones. Sadly, it has spread into the top, middle and bottom of my spine, and into both sides of my pelvis and I have a tumour in my bladder. I have had chemotherapy a year ago, starting 6 sessions on 22nd September 2022 and finished 6th January 2023. It completely wiped me out and luckily, I have amazing friends that came around to help. This has made me determined to help others and raise money for the Children's Oncology Services at St Peters.
