On 24th March 2024, I will be running the Hampton Court half marathon to raise funds for the Intensive Care Unit so that they can continue to help people like my Dad.

My story

On 21st December 2023 my Dad suffered a major heart attack followed by cardiac arrest. After nearly an hour of CPR and 11 shocks to the heart, Dad finally had a regular heart rhythm and was rushed to a specialist cardiac unit at St Peter's Hospital.

We learnt that Dad was suffering from congestive heart failure and aspirational pneumonia. Due to the lack of oxygen, Dad had also developed kidney failure and was likely to have a brain injury.

In true Ken fashion, Dad has been defying all odds and we couldn't be prouder. With a survival rate of less than 10%, despite doctors concerns that he wouldn't make it, Dad is now awake and able to talk. His heart is beating without support, his kidney failure has reversed and he continues to amaze us every day with the progress he is making.

None of this would have been possible without the amazing Intensive Care Unit at St Peter's Hospital. The 24 hour care and attention they have given to Dad, and their support to us as a family, has been incredible. It's safe to say that Dad would not be here without them, which is why I want to give something back.
